Criminal charges have been filed against eight Chinese nationals who were caught conducting illegal mining activities in Pagadian City.
Senior Insp. Joseph Ortega, spokesman of the Zamboanga Peninsula regional police, said two more people were included in the charge sheet after they were found to be have conspired with the foreigners.
"The charges were pursued against them. They were already committed to a Pagadian City jail," said Ortega.
Ortega said two cases were filed before the Pagadian City Prosecutors Office against the suspects, a case for violation of R.A. 7942 (Philippine Mining Act) and violation of R.A. 9275 (Clean Water Act of 2004).
Those charged were Ming Xiao, Dong Dong, Liu Qiyi, Yongde Chu, Zihao Tang, Shukui Zhang, Guangzhong Duan and Yin Linchang.
Also included in the charge sheet were Roy Damondamon and Jose Sabroso.
The eight Chinese were arrested for mining gold in a remote barangay in Pagadian City two days ago.
Seized from them were two backhoes and other materials being used for filtering gold.
